In Her Shoes
Each month we feature one of our students and profile them here. It is always interesting to see where our students are and what they are doing and hopefully it will inspire you to either complete your course or join us and start studying.

This month we would like to feature one of our Event Design students currently studying at the Academy, Tahnie Roberts, who is the Executive Assistant of Culture and Ceremonies for Great Big Events. Her role includes assisting the General Manager in day-to-day activities, as well as assisting at events. She has had the opportunity to work on themed Awards Dinners, including events for the National Federation’s of Swimming and Football and she is currently working on a number of other major event projects to be held locally and overseas.
Tahnie currently has a Diploma of Event Management and has enrolled in our Certificate of Event Design to further her understanding, so she can create even more exciting events for her clients. Her goals within the industry include a desire to create beautiful events;
“Whether it is a large-scale event with a large budget, or a small event with a key purpose, leaving a lasting impression on the attendee is the most rewarding of all.”
Here at the Academy we couldn’t agree more Tahnie and one of the key things we try to impart on students is that the success of an event rests heavily on the guest’s experience of it. An event is only truly created when it appeals to all 5 senses. The experience should allow your guests to Touch, Taste, Smell, Feel and Hear every element and thereby producing the ultimate event.
Tahnie describes ‘being creative’ as a love, together with playing Soccer and overseas Travel. She says travel has been a huge influence in her career choices and has given her an opportunity to interact with diverse cultures. Below is a mood board Tahnie has used within her first assignment for the Certificate of Event Design. She was asked to tell us a story about who she is, her likes and dislikes, her loves and passions through a selection of hand picked photos collated into a mood board that reflected a form of event design. Tahnie's tutor, Miranda Williams, was very impressed by Tahnie's assignment and that is why we have chosen to feature her as this month's Student of the Month.
