Geting a Job & Work Experience

At the Academy we actively promote our students to the industry and we are the first port of call for wedding and event professionals when they are looking for an extra pair of hands in the busy months or have any work experience opportunities become available. The I Do Crew is owned by our Course Consultant and Lead Tutor, Christine Ligthart, and provides a constant source of work for our students as they are offered the opportunity to work on weddings Australia wide.

We also maintain the Academy Showcase, a tool for both our current students and our alumni. The purpose of this platform is to operate as an online professional profile and digital portfolio for our students and their brand. Whether they are looking for employment, have launched a business or just want an industry presence while they complete their course, the Academy Showcase is a great tool. If you don’t have your own website it is the perfect way to start building a professional profile online with a link to your bio and portfolio that you can share with prospective employers, clients and for work experience opportunities. Even if you do have your own website this is a great opportunity to gain further exposure on a website with higher SEO and thus google ranking.

Each individual featured in the showcase has their very own professional profile with their personal and/or business details, a bio, service list, social media accounts, email and the opportunity to add client testimonials. Under each profile is a portfolio section where you can add as many portfolio projects as you wish. This may include real weddings and events, editorial shoots, floristry work, and design proposals, but not coursework.

On top of this, we regularly share the Academy Showcase with our database of international wedding and event venues, planners, stylists and designers. As well as actively promoting it to our followers on social media, who include industry professionals and brides. Even better, prospective employers and or couples are able to message you directly via the ‘contact me’ button which links directly to your email address.

Launching a business

If your goal is to launch a business, our business units and your experienced Tutor, will guide you through the process, step by step.

The following courses all have units dedicated to starting and running your own business included within them:

  • Wedding and Event Planning Certificate Course
  • Wedding Planning, Styling and Design Certification Course
  • Floral and Event Styling Certification Course
  • Advanced Special and Event Planning Certification Course

We take you through each step and as part of your course you put together a business plan, marketing strategy and a blueprint for starting your business. We show you how to decide on a company name, the services you will offer and your pricing structure. We walk you through contracts and insurance and give you advice on how to set up your own website and social media plan.  Your Tutor will become your business Mentor so that when you Graduate, you are confident and ready to launch.

By completing our business units, you will Graduate with an in-depth understanding of the business of weddings and events.  You will also have a toolkit of templates, including a design questionnaire, client consultation form, planning checklists, venue selection form, site visit form, supplier/vendor selection forms and much more. Whether your goal is launching a business or employment, our business training will be invaluable to you in your career.
